# Preference center

> The page recipients land on from your unsubscribe link: how to edit its design, text, save options, pause durations and topics, what publishing does, and which parts cannot be removed.

Every marketing email you send carries an unsubscribe link. That link opens a page Senderz hosts for you. The page is your last chance to keep someone: instead of leaving, they can pause, cut the frequency, pick topics, or switch channel.

Senderz calls it your **Consent & Unsubscribe** page. It is one page for the whole workspace.

## One page, all lists

There is a single unsubscribe page per workspace. Every campaign and every automation resolves to it, whatever list the recipient is on.

Senderz hosts the page. It is not served from your own domain, and it carries a small "Powered by Senderz" line at the bottom.

## Where to edit it

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Settings">
    Go to **Settings** and choose **Consent & Unsubscribe**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the card">
    You see a thumbnail of the page, whether it is **Live** or **Draft**, and
    three counts for the current calendar month: **Views this month**,
    **Unsubscribes** and **Saves**. A "save" is any time a recipient chose one of
    the alternatives instead of leaving.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the editor">
    Choose **Edit page**. The editor opens full screen with a live preview beside
    the controls, and a **Desktop** and **Mobile** toggle above it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Editing and publishing the page needs the **owner** or **admin** role. Other
  roles can open Settings but the save will be refused.
</Note>

## Draft and publish

The editor has two buttons and they do different things.

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Save draft" icon="floppy-disk">
    Stores your changes. **Recipients still see the old page.** Use it to stop
    partway through and come back.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Publish" icon="rocket">
    Saves the draft and then makes it the live page. Recipients see it from the
    next click onwards.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

The header shows a **Live** or **Draft** badge, plus an **Unsaved changes** badge whenever the editor holds edits you have not saved yet. Publish is greyed out when there is nothing new to publish.

## What you can edit

The editor has three tabs.

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Design">
    <ParamField path="Logo">
      Taken from your **Brand Kit**. There is no separate upload here. Change the
      logo under **Media & Brand** and the page follows.
    </ParamField>

    <ParamField path="Primary color">
      Five presets. This colours the buttons, the confirmation tick and the
      accents.
    </ParamField>

    <ParamField path="Background">
      Five presets, all light.
    </ParamField>

    <ParamField path="Font">

      characters.
    </ParamField>

    <ParamField path="Corners">
      Four choices: Sharp, Soft, Round and Full. Applies to the cards and the
      buttons together.
    </ParamField>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Text">
    Six fields, each capped at 200 characters.

    <ParamField path="Page title">
      The headline. Supports one dynamic field, `{שם_פרטי}`, which is replaced by
      the recipient's first name. If Senderz does not hold a first name for them,
      the token is removed and the rest of the sentence still reads correctly, so
      write it to work either way.
    </ParamField>

    <ParamField path="Subtitle">
      One line under the title. Leave it blank to hide it.
    </ParamField>

    <ParamField path="Unsubscribe button text">

    <ParamField path="Success screen message">
      The body of that screen. The default tells them operational messages and
      order updates may still arrive.
    </ParamField>

    <ParamField path="Back-to-website button text">
      The wording on the link back to your shop. That button only appears when
      you have filled in **Website** under **Settings** and then **Workspace**.
    </ParamField>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Options">
    Five switches, each showing or hiding one section of the page. The editor
    states it plainly: the structure is fixed, and a switch shows or hides a
    section rather than moving it.

    * **Pause subscription**, with the durations you offer
    * **Reduce frequency**
    * **Switch to SMS**
    * **Content preferences**, with the topic labels
    * **Exit survey**

    Below them sits a locked group listing what cannot be turned off.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

<Info>
  Section order is fixed and cannot be rearranged. The sections always render in
  this order: pause, reduce frequency, switch to SMS, content preferences. There
  is no drag-and-drop block builder, and no way to add a free text block or an
  image to this page today.
</Info>

## What cannot be removed

Two elements are structural. They render on every version of the page and the editor shows them locked, with a padlock and a note that they are fixed.

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="The unsubscribe button" icon="lock">
    You choose its wording. You cannot hide it. A recipient must always be able
    to leave in one click from this page.
  </Card>

  <Card title="The operational-message footnote" icon="lock">
    A small line at the very bottom saying operational messages and order updates
    will keep being sent. It is not editable and not removable.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

The channel toggles are also always present for whichever channels the recipient actually has, and the confirmation screen always offers a way back in.

## What the recipient sees

In order, top to bottom:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Your logo and name">
    Brand Kit logo if you have one, otherwise the workspace name.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Title and subtitle">
    Your text, with the first-name token filled in.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Channel toggles">
    A **Channels** card with a switch per channel the person can actually receive:
    Email, SMS and Push. Each toggle is independent. Turning email off does not
    touch SMS. They confirm with **Save preferences**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="The save options you enabled">
    Pause, reduce frequency and switch to SMS, as cards.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Content preferences">
    The topic chips, if you enabled them.
  </Step>

  <Step title="WhatsApp">
    A card offering WhatsApp only. It appears when WhatsApp is activated for your
    workspace, **Preference center** is switched on under **Where you collect
    opt-ins** in **Settings** and then **WhatsApp**, and the contact has a phone
    number.
  </Step>

  <Step title="The unsubscribe button">
    Then the fixed footnote below it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The page renders in your workspace language, which is set when the workspace is created. Any wording you never touched is shown in that language automatically. Any wording you wrote yourself is shown exactly as you wrote it, in whatever language you wrote it. There is no separate language control for this page, so if you serve customers in two languages, write the copy in the one most of them read.

## The save options in detail

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Pause subscription" icon="clock">
    The recipient chooses a break instead of leaving. You pick which durations to
    offer from **30**, **60** and **90 days**. At least one has to stay selected.
    Offering just one turns the card into a single click. Offering more than one
    makes the card expand into a choice.

    While paused they stay **Subscribed** and every marketing message skips them.
    If they come back to the page it shows the date the pause runs until.
    **You cannot lift a pause for them.** See
    [Consent & suppression](/en/audience/consent) for why.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Reduce frequency" icon="gauge-simple">
    One click, no options. It caps that contact at **one marketing email per
    week**. They stay subscribed and stay on every list. Returning to the page
    shows it as already set.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Switch to SMS" icon="comment-sms">
    **Off by default.** Turn it on only if you actually send SMS.

    The card uses the phone number on file when there is one, and otherwise asks
    for one. Confirming does two things at once: it subscribes them to SMS and
    unsubscribes them from email. The card states plainly that confirming is
    consent to receive SMS marketing, which is what makes the opt-in valid.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Content preferences" icon="tags">
    A set of topic chips the recipient ticks. You write the labels. Up to **12**
    topics, at least one, each label up to 60 characters. The defaults are
    Discounts and sales, Guides and content, and Important updates only.

    **Topics are real lists, not a decorative label.** The first time a recipient
    picks a topic, Senderz creates a managed list for it and adds them. Unticking
    it removes them. You will see those lists on your Lists screen and you can
    target them from a campaign or an automation like any other list.

    A list is only created once someone actually picks the topic, so a brand new
    topic will not appear on your Lists screen straight away. Renaming a topic
    here renames the managed list, which takes effect the next time a recipient
    selects it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Exit survey" icon="clipboard-question">
    Asks why, **after** the person has already been removed. Covered below.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## What the final unsubscribe click does

The button at the bottom is a **contact-wide** withdrawal, not an email-only one.

<Warning>
  Removal happens first, before anything else is asked. The survey only renders
  once the removal has actually succeeded. Nobody is ever held behind a question
  they did not want to answer.
</Warning>

In one action it:

* sets email, SMS, push and WhatsApp all to **Unsubscribed**
* writes one consent row per channel that changed, with the source **preference center**
* adds their address and number to your suppression list
* revokes their live browser push subscriptions
* adds their number to the WhatsApp opt-out list
* records an unsubscribe reason on the contact, which stays `not_provided` until they answer the survey

Then the confirmation screen appears with your success title and message, the survey if you enabled it, the back-to-website button if you configured a website, and a **Join back** link.

<Note>
  **Join back** re-subscribes every channel that person can receive, lifts the
  matching suppression entries, and clears any marketing pause. It is there
  because mis-clicks happen and the alternative is a lost customer.
</Note>

## The exit survey

Shown on the confirmation screen when you enable it. It is explicitly optional and labelled as such.

The recipient picks one reason:

* Too many emails
* Content isn't relevant
* I never signed up
* Other

They can add free text, then choose **Send and remove me** or **Skip and remove me**. Either way they are already removed.

The chosen reason is written onto the contact and shows on their profile under **Unsubscribe Reason**, so you can open any recent unsubscriber and see why. The per-reason breakdown across the whole page is available through the API over any date range.

<Info>
  There is no survey report screen in the app yet, and the reason is not
  available as a filter in the segment builder. Reading it today means opening a
  contact, or calling the API.
</Info>

## The one-click header path

Separately from the page, every marketing email carries the standard one-click unsubscribe headers. Gmail, Yahoo and Apple Mail read them and show their own native unsubscribe button at the top of your message.

<Info>
  That button never opens your page. The mail app calls Senderz directly in the
  background and the recipient is removed on the spot. They never see your pause
  option, your topics or your survey.
</Info>

Two differences that matter:

* **It is per channel.** It unsubscribes the channel the message went out on, so an email one-click leaves the person's SMS opt-in intact.
* **You cannot switch it off, and you should not want to.** Mailbox providers weight a visible unsubscribe button positively. Without it more people report you as spam instead, and a spam complaint costs far more than an unsubscribe.

The unsubscribe reason recorded on the contact is `one_click`, which is how you tell these apart from people who worked through your page. You see it on the contact profile under **Unsubscribe Reason**.

## The link is personal

The unsubscribe link in an email is unique to that recipient. It is signed, so it cannot be edited or guessed, and it carries who the message went to.

* A link from an **email** identifies the person by their email address.
* A link from an **SMS** identifies them by their phone number, which is what makes the page work for contacts you only hold a number for.

If the person's address or number has since changed, or the link is altered, it stops matching and the page shows **This link is no longer valid**, telling them to use the link from a recent message. Nothing is changed on the contact in that case.

The same applies to the header button: if a mail provider calls it with a link that no longer matches, Senderz answers normally and simply does not unsubscribe anyone. Providers do not retry, so a stale link is a quiet no-op rather than a repeated failure.

## Measuring it

The card in **Settings** and then **Consent & Unsubscribe** shows three counts for the current calendar month:

| Count            | Meaning                                                                                  |
| ---------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Views this month | The page was opened |
| Unsubscribes | Someone was removed, whether from the page or from the mail app's own unsubscribe button |
| Saves | Someone chose an alternative: paused, reduced frequency, switched to SMS or saved topics |

A healthy page has saves. If the number is stubbornly zero, the alternatives you enabled are probably not the ones your audience wants, or the wording is not making the offer clear.
