The feature carries a few different labels in the product, and they all mean
the same thing. The tab is called Saved blocks, the page heading says
Universal Content, the builder palette calls them Fixed blocks, and the
action on a block’s toolbar is Save as universal.
When to use one
A saved block earns its place when the same content appears in most of your emails and changes occasionally.Standard footer
Address, social links, and the unsubscribe line. Change the address once
instead of in forty templates.
Header and logo
The masthead every campaign opens with.
Seasonal promo strip
A shipping banner or sale strip you swap in and out across live automations.
Trust badges
Payment logos, return policy, or review stars that sit near the bottom of
every email.
Save a block
There are two ways in. Use the first when the block already exists in a template, and the second when you want to build one from scratch.- From an email you already built
- From scratch
1
Select the block
Open an email template and click the block on the canvas. A small
toolbar appears beside it.
2
Choose Save as universal
The action is on that toolbar, and also in the header of the inspector
panel on the right.
3
Name it
Give it something you will recognise in a dropdown, such as “Standard
footer”. Names must be unique in the workspace.
Insert one into a template
1
Open an email template
Any email template, including one you are editing inside a campaign or an
automation step.
2
Switch the palette to Fixed blocks
The left palette has two tabs. The second one lists your saved blocks and
has its own search box.
3
Drag it in, or click to append
Dragging drops it exactly where the insertion line shows. Clicking adds it
to the bottom of the email.
Linked copies are locked
Selecting a linked copy inside a template does not open the usual block settings. You get a short panel instead that says the block is locked, with two choices.
This is deliberate. Without the lock, tidying up one campaign’s footer would silently rewrite the footer in every other email.
Detaching is permanent for that copy. The block keeps the content it had at
the moment you detached, and it stops receiving updates. The source and every
other linked copy are untouched.
Edit a saved block
Open Templates → Saved blocks and click the block’s preview, or use its menu and choose Edit content. It opens in the full email builder.1
Make your changes
Autosave is off in this editor. Nothing is published until you press Save.
2
Press Save
A confirmation appears and tells you how many emails the change affects.
3
Confirm
Every email template that links to this block is updated immediately.
Delete a saved block
Deleting a saved block does not break the emails that use it. Each linked copy keeps the content it last refreshed to and simply stops receiving updates from that point. Delete a single block from its menu on the Saved blocks tab. To remove several, hover a card to reveal its checkbox, select the ones you want, and use Delete in the bar that appears at the top.Deleting cannot be undone, and there is no trash for saved blocks. If you only
want to stop a block being reused, leaving it in place costs nothing.
Limits
- Email only. SMS and push templates cannot use saved blocks.
- Up to 200 saved blocks are listed per workspace.
- A saved block built in the full-screen editor is treated as a Columns section, so you can place it anywhere on the main canvas, but not inside another Columns section. A block saved directly from a template’s canvas keeps its own type and can go inside a Columns section.
- You cannot drop a block into a linked Columns section. Detach it first, or add the block to the source instead. If you try, the block lands at the bottom of the email.
- Names must be unique within the workspace.
- Who can change them. Everyone in the workspace can see and insert saved blocks. Creating, editing, renaming and deleting need the owner, admin, editor or designer role.
